National Junior Hereford Association Members & Youth Activities Intern Applicants

Welcome to Submittable and your hub for the Hereford Youth Foundation of America's (HYFA) scholarship application process as well as applying for all awards, contests and conferences offered through the National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA) and the NJHA Board of Director Application and National Queen Application.

Hereford Youth Foundation of America scholarship program is designed to provide recognition for outstanding members of the National Junior Hereford Association. Its purpose is to encourage individual and cooperative effort, enthusiasm, excellence, leadership, academic success and achievement among youth and to develop successful individuals as good leaders for both the Hereford breed and the beef industry. This spring HYFA will award close to $40,000 of academic scholarships to Hereford youth. Award presentations will take place at a special awards ceremony in Grand Island, Neb., during the HYFA Scholarship, Award and Maroon Jacket Ceremony at the 2024 Junior National Hereford Expo. Applicants are encouraged, but not required to be present to accept scholarships.

SPRING HYFA SCHOLARSHIPS: DUE APRIL 1

In 2023, the Hereford Youth Foundation of America awarded close to $200,000 of scholarships to deserving National Junior Hereford Association members. Don’t miss your opportunity to expand your educational opportunities through the Spring scholarship program. Spring scholarship applications are due April 1st and will be awarded at the Junior National Hereford Expo, this year held July 6-12, 2024, in Grand Island, Neb.

JUNIOR GOLDEN BULL AWARD APPLICATION: DUE APRIL 1

Four “Junior Golden Bull” awards will be presented annually during the Junior National Hereford Expo. The award will consist of a Junior Golden Bull bronze trophy, given to an outstanding applicant from each grade of high school. If there is no applicant for a grade level, no award will be given. The National Hereford Women and the National Junior Hereford Association sponsor the award.

PROSPECT AWARD (ALL GRADES) APPLICATION: DUE APRIL 1

One Prospect Award is given to each grade from 3rd to 8th, during the Junior National Hereford Expo. If there is no applicant for a grade level, no award will be given. The winner in each grade level will receive an appropriate award. The National Hereford Women and the National Junior Hereford Association sponsor this award.

  • Hereford Herdsman Scholarship (2)                     $2,500 Each
  • John Wayne Memorial Scholarship (1)                  $2,000
  • NOP Founders Scholarship (1)                              $2,000
  • Charles E. Boyd Memorial (1)                                $1,500
  • Buckeye/Bluegrass Scholarship (1)                      $1,500
  • Bud Snidow Award (1)                                           $2,500
  • Mead Family Memorial Scholarship (1)                $2,000


REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL

  1. Applicant must be a NJHA member in good standing.
  2. Applicants may receive scholarships/awards only once. Previous winners are not eligible to receive another time.
  3. All scholarship applicants must be a high school senior or enrolled in a four-year accredited university, junior/community college or technical institution.
  4. All applicants must have maintained a “C” or 2.0 GPA.
  5. Applicants must have not yet turned 22 by Jan. 1 of the current year.

  2. Applicant may receive award only once per grade.    
    1. One recent photograph of applicant.
    2. List of references.

  2. Applicant may receive award only once per grade.
